2019’s SOMA Festival in Castlewellan will showcase some of the best and the brightest of Ireland as well as top international stars such as Scottish singer songwriter KT Tunstall.
From Wednesday 17th to 21st of July more than 60 performances and events will see the County Down town transformed into the cultural hub of the island as contemporary and traditional arts come together in a feast designed to delight all.
As well as Tunstall there will be the Hothouse Flowers’ Liam Ó Maonlaí, the acclaimed Honeyfeet, The Answer’s Cormac Neeson and hotly-tipped Ded Rabbit.
Performances such as Turnstall’s intimate show at St Malachy’s Church on 17th July will be matched with five days offering entertainment and enlightenment.
For six years now the SOMA Festival has transformed Castlewellan into the destination for culture vultures and a summer event for all.
As well as the headline acts the SOMA Festival hosts a range of events, sure to please lovers of traditional and contemporary arts.
Once again there will be SOMA Mind, Body and Soul to help everyone revitalise and relax with a range of alternative and holistic events across the weekend.
SOMA Festival Director, Tiona McSherry, said everyone involved – and residents of Castlewellan and beyond – is looking forward to the festival.
“We’ve come far since that fabulous first incarnation of Soma, a humble weekend affair with one major, sublime concert; a few excellent masterclasses; an art exhibition (also excellent); a hotchpotch of traditional music sessions scattered throughout the town and a cast of dedicated volunteers running ragged making sure the whole thing didn’t come apart at the seams.
“Now we have five days that are filled with the best the island can offer, and much more.”
With over 60 activities and events in this year’s festival, there is something for everyone. For times and ticket prices, view the full programme at www.somafestival.com or follow #TheSomaFestival on social media.
