Tina Calder

Journalist, Publicist and Managing Director of Excalibur Press

Excalibur Press founder Tina Calder has a wide and varied career than spans two decades. An award-winning journalist, publicist and author, she has been specialising in editorial services and syndicated content throughout her career.

Having specialised in lifestyle, features, showbiz and entertainment for 20 years as well as having a keen interest in business, entrepreneurship and online publishing, Tina has carved a niche for herself and her company writing in a broad range of styles for a wide variety of publications and clients.

Survival: The Story of The Defects is Tina’s first book, she is currently working on the biography of former SLF member Henry Cluney among others.

Tina is also the creator of Excalibur Press’ own magazine www.bamni.co.uk and her most recent venture The Merlin Project, an ideas and learning platform.

Janine Cobain

Writer, Editor & Client Liaison

Janine Cobain is a writer based in Belfast. Author of How Will You Remember Me?, which was published in 2014, she is currently writing her second novel Blown Away with support from the Arts Council of NI. Janine has written and produced several short films and was recently commissioned by RTE. for their Storylands competition for her short film Social Influence. Janine has written many articles for Excalibur Press, which have been published in print for newspapers such as the Sunday World and Newsletter, online for Cool FM, BAM magazine, and many blogs for Excalibur’s clients. As a Director with The Merlin Project and founder of Screenwriters NI, Janine is kept busy by her various writing projects.

Jonathan Traynor

Journalist & PR Exec

A journalist from 1989 Jonathan has worked in daily and local newspapers, as well as having a lengthy track record as a freelance writer. In 1996 he turned from ‘poacher to gamekeeper’ embarking on a 20-year career in public relations. Jonathan worked for a leading international PR agency as well as for the North and West Belfast Health Action Zone. Up until November 2015 he was the Senior Communications Officer for the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People (NICCY). He was a key part of a team which won numerous Chartered Institute of Public Relations Awards, including the ‘President’s Grand Prix Award’ for the Best In-House PR team. Throughout his career in PR Jonathan continued freelance journalism and has run his own music blog on Northern Ireland’s rock and heavy metal scene. He has covered local, national, international acts, reviews albums and has recently launched a series of video interviews on his site. His work has been published in magazines and global web sites, and he has appeared on BBC Radio Ulster discussing music trends. Jonathan has a number of short stories published on line and is currently working on his first novel. He specialises in news, features, reviews and Northern Ireland’s political scene, but enjoys all types of writing.

Abby Williams

Originally from Aylesbury, England, Abby Williams has lived in Belfast for 11 years. She published her first novel Tripping with Excalibur Press in January 2016 and has been writing for BAM Magazine since it began in 2015. Abby’s work experience includes hard-hitting articles on the subjects of mental health, human interest and alternative news. She has also published entertainment features with the Sunday World, Crumlin News and various other titles across Northern Ireland. Abby launched her Game of Thrones fan column, Throne Watch, for BAM Mag in April this year and recently became our Contributors Editor. Writing from a very young age, Abby is currently writing two further books, one fiction and one non-fiction, with the goal of publishing them next year. Abby loves to explore issues that relate to her readers, delving into unknown territory and delivering exciting, eloquent and high quality work. She is interested in psychology, meditation, spirituality and cult culture and has done extensive research within these areas.

Chloe Langton

Creative Content Producer

Chloe Langton is a Drama and Film graduate from Queen’s University Belfast and works as a Content Creator in the Excalibur Press Team. With a keen eye for details, Chloe’s passion for creating content began with producing her own short films and marketing them both online and in print for her local newspaper. A BFI Film Academy member/graduate Chloe is highly organised and puts in exceptional effort to creating the best possible outcome for her content. Creating online content for Excalibur press, Oranga Graphics Company, Made in Belfast restaurant chain and many more clients.

James Murphy

Writer

After obtaining a Single Honours English Degree from Queens University Belfast, he embarked on a teaching career, first entering the classroom almost 20 years ago. In the intervening years he has become a successful educationalist, holding the offices of Head of English Department, Vice Principal and School Principal along the way and guiding schools both in Northern Ireland and across the UK to leading edge status. James is also a writer, working within the genre of Ulster Noir. His first novel, The Rise of Terror first published in 2016, achieved a second print run with Excalibur Press in 2017 and has been met with excellent reviews and has since achieved Professional Membership Status with the Irish Writers Centre. As a Director of The Merlin Project, he is committed to providing opportunities for empowerment, education and engagement with those who have through no fault of their own, not had the opportunities to develop creatively both within and beyond the education system..

Peter Jenkins

Writer

Peter Jenkins is a freelance copywriter, content writer, and editor, as well as a graduate in Spanish and German. After several years as a translator, Peter first cut his copywriting teeth in the late noughties and has a diverse digital background, having worked in agencies for several years as an SEO technician, content editor and digital marketing analyst. Peter has produced content for clients in a variety of sectors and industries. These include household names in the UK, such as Tesco, Thorntons, TUI and Expedia. He particularly enjoys writing blog posts and long form content. When he’s not whipping up content for clients, Peter is a keen swimmer and enjoys following lots of different sports. He’s an avid reader and is a big fan of the crime fiction writers James Ellroy, Ian Rankin and John Connolly. Peter still enjoys learning languages and in his spare time he also attends a night class in Polish.

Zuzana Klimova

Writer, Blogger & Podcaster

Zuzana Klimova is a Czech born TV/film professional with a passion for natural health, nutrition, and fitness. As the author of a self-published cookbook, The Sweet Spud: Feast Your Way to a Healthy Gut, she also regularly blogs on the subject and interviews local professionals and contributors for her podcast on natural health and wellbeing. As well as writing for Excalibur Press, Zuzana provides support to writers in Screenwriters NI as a Script Editor providing invaluable feedback on story and characterisation. Zuzana is also a lover of the great outdoors and enjoys challenging her body. Recently she has taken up cold-water dipping and recently conquered the highest peak in North Africa, Toubkal (4167m) to raise awareness for a local mental health charity, MYMY. After first coming to Ireland in 2004, she settled here permanently in 2004 and now lives in Belfast where she continues to develop recipes for alternative diets.

Claire Louise McBride

Writer

Claire Louise is a recent MSc graduate in Counselling Therapy and Communication and lover of all things creative. Her poem ‘Dearest Dad’ was published in ‘Eternal Poets’ when she was just 14 and was awarded 'greatest development into her career' by JMC six years later as a result of her creative techniques in supporting vulnerable people. More recently, Clare Louise writes for Excalibur Press and, as a lover of music, enjoys writing her own material. She was honoured to accept Epstein's award for 'Best Songwriter of 2017', and for several years has worked for Beyond Skin, an organisation who promote diversity through music, art, and dance. She currently delivers creative workshops throughout Northern Ireland and occasionally in other countries to people of all ages.
