Cathedral Quarter BID Shortlisted In Two Prestigious Awards Categories

Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) has been shortlisted in two categories of the Arts and Business Awards 2021, with the final results set to be announced tonight (June 17).

They have been shortlisted in the Brand Storytelling for their work in partnership with Big Telly Theatre Company, and in the Creative Community Engagement category for their work with Young At Art.

Damian Corr, Cathedral Quarter BID manager, said being shortlisted was a tribute to the ongoing work to reflect the creative core of the area.

“We are delighted to have two projects shortlisted in the Arts in Business Awards,” he said.

“Creativity is at the heart of Cathedral Quarter, and we work to make sure we support that, as we recognise that it is the nature of the people who live, work, study and visit.”

The work with Young At Art included the 2019 Belfast Children’s Festival that featured at day long Family Fun Day, children’s art workshops, theatre workshops, digital animation and augmented reality, as well as a Baby Rave.

“Creating spaces that are welcoming and appealing to the family market is intrinsic to the rejuvenation and revitalisation of our city centres,” explained Damian.

“Belfast Children’s Festival reaffirmed this and has helped start a city-wide conversation about regeneration and child friendly spaces, which has been welcomed by the business community.“

The Big Telly Theatre project saw them deliver a challenging, but fun experience in Waring Street, dubbed The Worst Café in the World, as part of Belfast International Arts Festival, transforming a non-theatre space to somewhere tales can be told.

“The essence of what we believe is that all parts of Cathedral Quarter are venues for creativity,” said Damian.

“What the Big Telly Theatre Company produced was a re-imagining of what can be done in any space. With a theme on the amount of memories and content it was a project that we were delighted to be involved with.”

The Arts and Business Awards, in partnership with Forestside, seeks to recognise the collaborative work between the business and creative industries.
